8X overrun sinds 2010! Dit geeft te denken. Hoe vaak is het dan niet maar net wel goed afgelopen.

Een vriend van mij heeft met de desbetreffende capt in merpati gevlogen. Wat hij tot nu toe heeft geboord gaat het om windshear op short final. Ze hebben de baan niet eens gehaald. De capt is lokaal de fo aan de naam te lezen uit india en de derde piloot instructeur komt uit nl.
Het zijn allemaal geruchten. Ben wel heel blij dat iedereen er goed vanaf is gekomen. Gelukkig geen doden en zwaarvewonden

Geruchten gaan inderdaad over microburst / windshear op short final. Ze hebben een go-around geinitieerd maar dat bleek niet genoeg te zijn om er uit te klimmen. De vergelijkingen gaan op met de Delta L-1011 crash op DFW in de jaren 80.

Als ik het vluchtig even doorlees zijn ze door hun MDA heen gegaan zonder dat ze visual waren.

Just finished reading the report. They flew a perfectly serviceable aircraft into the sea.
Amazing nobody was killed.
I guess this answers my question in the previous thread about whether Indonesian Captains will make a go-around or not (20 feet is a little late imho).
The culture in this part of the World is not compatible with what is required to operate aircraft.

Agreed, however, the people that made the report aren't asking the right questions...
I think it is bloody obvious WHAT happened. (Pilots were not visual, approach continued, plane hits water) Those are only statements of FACT.
The real questions that should be asked, and preferably answered, is WHY did the PIC think he could get away with continuing the approach, without being visual? Or how much pressure was on the pilots NOT to perform a go around? What does that say about the safety culture in this airline? How is this going to improve? What about the SIC? Why did he not overrule the captain? Why did they not see the need to wait for 5 minutes until the shower had passed? What does THAT say about training (use of weather radar, and unfortunately common sense?) What about the recurrents? There are strong rumours that this company doesn't actually perform the recurrents, but just falsifies the documents. Has this been investigated? If I look at the hours flown before the crash, I find it hard to believe that these guys have actually flown these hours...
