At the start of this Winter Season 2008/09 on 26 October KLM cityhopper will cease to operate flights to Maastricht Aachen Airport. The fleet and crew capacity which will become available as a result, will be utilized for other routes in the network.
Despite various commercial initiatives employed by KLM over the years, operating to this airport has not proven to be profitable. Given the high fuel costs and the deterioration of the economic climate, short routes of this kind no longer fit in KLM operations.
To ensure a good transport link between the south of Limburg and Schiphol, train transport is an important alternative. The Dutch railways have indicated they will investigate optimization of the train route Maastricht-Schiphol. For passengers who have already booked a flight, KLM will seek a fitting solution.
