Niks sigaar. We hadden het over het hoogste commerciele vliegveld in de USA en daarna in de wereld.
"Commercieel" is hier the operative word en KLXV is zeker geen G.A. veldje.

FIRST A319 DELIVERED TO AIR CHINA SOUTHWEST COMPANY
The Air China Southwest Company has taken delivery of its first A319, with four further aircraft to be delivered during August and September.
Air China Southwest's A319s have been equipped with specially designed options for operations at high-altitude airports in the Tibet Autonomous Region and neighbouring Sichuan Province. The Chengdu-based carrier's new A319s are equipped with high-altitude switches, improved tyres, as well as improved cabin pressure system, brake system and a gaseous oxygen system that enables safe and reliable service around the Himalayas. The aircraft is certified to and operate from runways at 4,419 metre altitude, a level above China's highest airport, Bangda (4,334 metres above the sea level).
Equipped with high-thrust CFM56-5B engines (27,000 lb. Sea Level Static Thrust) the A319 can carry a full passenger load to and from China's high-altitude airports. In Air China Southwest¡¦s configuration, the A319s seats up to 128 passengers in a two-class layout.
Furthermore, the A319 has the added advantage of sharing the same cockpit and handling characteristics with other Airbus fly-by-wire aircraft in service, such as the A340-300, which is also in service on the Tibetan routes, thereby reducing operating cost and enhancing efficiency and flexibility.
With a range of 3,500 nautical miles (6,500 km.), the A319 offers the right size and range for the airline, complementing its air travel services on the Chengdu-Lhasa, Chengdu-Bangda, Chengdu-Jiuzhai routes.
SEATTLE, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A China Southwest Boeing 757 has
inaugurated regular service to the world's highest-altitude commercial
airport at Bangda, Tibet, from Chengdu, Sichuan, in the People's Republic of
China, the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group announced.
"With minor changes to the cabin pressure system and flight operations
procedures, the 757 high-performance twinjet is perfectly suited for Bangda,"said John Chien, Boeing Sales Director, aboard the historic inaugural flight last week.
The 757, piloted by Zhang Kefu and Hu Yilian, left Chengdu at 8:00 a.m.
with 100 passengers aboard. It was greeted at Bangda by airport officials
and by Tibet Autonomous Region government officials.
At 14,219 feet (4,334 metres), Bangda Airport is the world's highest-
altitude airport. Taking off and landing at Bangda is like operating from
the summit of Mt. Whitney, 14,494 feet (4,418 meters) in California, which is the highest point in the 48 contiguous United States.
Boeing, the Civil Aviation Administration of China and China Southwest
Airlines completed an important 757 survey flight to Bangda in October, 1994, to prepare for regular service. Additionally, Boeing and the airline recently used flight simulators in Seattle and Zhuhai, Guangdong, China to prove flight procedures and complete flight training, including single engine take-off and landing.
