Expat or not?

Expat or not?

Just a word of caution to anyone considering any of the jobs in this thread.

If you have a stable job in a Western country for an Airline that is making money then that's your best option IMHO.

Looks like a big downturn coming next year - best to stay put until it passes.

I've seen a lot of people running from contract to contract forever chasing the $$$$.

Very important:- Once an Expat always an Expat There is usually no way back.

Most Expat jobs are basically three month renewable contracts. If the sh*t hits the fan you're the first to be let go. So you need a plan B at all times.

Same thing happens when enough local pilots have been trained - very few companies offer long term prospects.

Most companies will not move you between fleets - you'll stay on Type X.

The biggest challenge is learning to live in a different culture - that requires a considerable adjustment. Not everyone can make the adjustment.

However if you can accept these aspects of the job it can also be an extremely rewarding opportunity personally, professionally and financially. Choose carefully.

Personally I'm quite happy with 30C every day.
